Duck Dynasty vs. Liberal Mob.

This is just utter bullsh*t from the Left.  If they wanted to start a culture war, their desires have been met because this has ticked off the Right like you cannot believe.

This is all the Left PC police do.  They claim they have the right to speak whatever they want, but when somebody says something they don't agree with, they say they are offended and classify it as hate speech.  I am so fed up with this political correctness that I will go out of my way to make sure that I do not say what the Left wants me to.  I refuse to say "Happy Holidays" over "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Hanukah."

However, this crap will not stand.  The Liberal mob is going to face some serious opposition here this time.  A&E built up the platform for Duck Dynasty, and they are about to be steamrolled over by it.  The difference here is that unlike others the Liberals target, the family here has lots of money, lots of popularity, and lots of other stations that would snatch up their show in a heartbeat.

If you do not know the story by now, Duck Dynasty's Phil made some controversial statements on homosexuality stating, "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there.  Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."  He continued to say, "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

See, the problem the Left faces here is that, unlike other Conservatives, Phil is a very outspoken man who doesn't care what others think about him, so he speaks what's on his mind.  The Left has planted this seed that it is racist to disagree with homosexuality, so people who are against it tend not to speak about it.

This is proved study after study.  Every public opinion poll will show you that a majority of Americans approve of gay marriage.  But then when they go to the ballot box, the results fall below what the studies suggest.  Yet, gay marriage has lost at the polls over 30 times, only to be put into popular vote by any state extremely recently.  Before that (and still), it is done by legislatures and courts.

So Phil is just saying what is on a majority of people's minds, but they won't come out and say it.  A comment on The Hollywood Reporter's article stating, "Do you support Phil Robertson's opinion?
Yes↑ No↓" has received almost 23,000 yes's with a mere 100 no's to counter that in the matter of 4 hours.

But the major point here is freedom of speech.  We live in a nation that speech is protected under.  Why is saying that you disagree with homosexuality and giving your reasons why cause for an "indefinite hiatus" from your television show?  I understand the employer has all the right to do that, but what does it mean when you start telling your employees what to believe?  What they can say?  What they can think?

It means we are living in an oppressive society trying to control our thoughts and actions, and I will not stand for that.  The same freedom that gives you the right to speak in favor of homosexuality has to be extended to the person speaking out against it.  You can't pick sides with free speech because that is oppression.

This reminds me of an article where a religious man refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple.  The court then FORCED the man to bake the cake.  My question here is how can society take one side of the issue that is pretty evenly split and idolize one side while castigating the other?  It just doesn't seem very democratic to me.  It seems authoritarian.

People might argue that this will lead to extremists being allowed to speak things that are extreme and hurtful.  Let them talk!  If their ideas are so extreme and so hurtful as you say, nobody will even give them airtime to spout their mouths off.  And that's why I'm such a proponent of free speech.  We don't need any oversight from government telling us yes this is or no this isn't hate speech.  The people will work it out themselves, better than any oppression ever can.

A modern example of this was with Martin Bashir.  When he made such crude attacks on Sarah Palin, he faced such public backlash that he resigned.  It wasn't MSNBC stepping in and telling him that he was off the air, it was the people's reaction to his comments that forced him to resign.  We don't need these television stations telling us what is right and wrong.  We can decide for ourselves as the public.

When you create these lists of words that I am not allowed to say in your opinion, it only makes me want to say them more and right in front of your face so that I may see that angry look on your face.  Therefore, when you create these rules and put people on "indefinite hiatus," it only makes us want to speak out against you more.

This isn't all about homosexuality, but something much larger that the Left is trying to do.  They are trying to gain control.  They want to control us for their idea of this collective society.  If they can control our what we say and what we think, they can control our minds.  If our society ever gets to that point, I swear I'll flee the country.

Another major argument I have is that when somebody says something that I find offensive, I don't force them not to say it, I simply state that I don't agree with them.  A common example of this is when people make jokes about rapist priests.  First of all, when you tell the joke for the 300th time, it does certainly lose it's punch, and you look like the idiot when you're the only one laughing.  But also, I don't step in and say, "I find offense in that so anybody who says anything bad about my religion should be removed from the air effective immediately."  No, we acknowledge everyone's right to free speech.  Yet, when the Conservatives say anything that has even the hint of controversy, they get pulled off the air so fast that nobody even has time to discuss it, because in fact, there are many people who are on that person's side.

This is completely Phil's freedom of speech and freedom of religion.  This "indefinite hiatus" is complete crap, and if the family were smart, they'd threaten to move to a different network.
